The City of Vincent welcomes the easing of coronavirus restrictions and is working towards implementing phase two of the State Government’s four-phase plan for getting our lives and livelihoods back on track.
Our work towards phase two is already underway, with plans to implement and support the safe re-opening of as many community facilities as possible, including the Library and Local History Centre, on Monday 18 May.
Supporting our local businesses as they adjust to the new rules and try to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is also a priority.
“We are urgently working on implementing phase two of the Government’s roadmap to easing restrictions,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
“This includes re-opening our library, opening the doors of our community halls and supporting our community sporting clubs to start non-contact training in our parks."
We are aiming to re-open Beatty Park by the end of next week, with restrictions in place to comply with State Government requirements. Rigorous water testing will take place before the re-opening.
“We know how keen our community is to see the re-opening of Beatty Park and we are excited to get this community hub running again as soon as possible,” said Mayor Cole.
“We are considering how to provide safe access to and from the outdoor and indoor pool areas and we are undertaking water testing and working through the scheduling of some fitness classes.”
Acknowledging the difficulties faced by our local businesses, Mayor Cole said: “It has been particularly tough for our local businesses, and they’ve been amazing in the face of this. Now, because of the great efforts everyone has put in, we are in this fortunate place of seeing restrictions being lifted.
“It is really important for us to support our local pubs, cafes and restaurants to safely re-open and adjust to the new restrictions around 20 patrons and the four-square-metre rule.
“We can help by creating greater use of public spaces for physically distant dining – such as using Leederville Village Square, setting up temporary parklets in road reserves and maximizing alfresco areas, which have been free in Vincent for some time.”
The City's phase two implementation plan is currently being developed and will be available on our website on Thursday 14 May 2020.
