Library and Information Week 2018 comes to the City of Vincent! From Monday 21 May 208 to Friday 25 May 2018 City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre will join organisations from Broome to Hobart, celebrating Library and Information Week 2018. Library and Information Week aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals in Australia and showcase the many and varied resources and services that libraries provide to the community. The event has been organised by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries. The theme for Library and Information Week 2018 is Find yourself in a library. We will be celebrating by hosting a National Simultaneous Storytime Event on Wednesday 23 May 2018 at 11am. We will be joined by City of Vincent Mayor, Emma Cole, who will read this year's picture book, Hickory Dickory Dash by Tony Wilson. Come along, enjoy the story and receive a gift bag with craft activities. No bookings required! For more information on Library and Information Week around Australia, visit the Australian Library and Information Association website.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 18th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
