Library Reopens : FAQs

The City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre reopens Monday 18 May with reduced opening hours. The City of Vincent Customer Service desk continues to operate out of the library. Please read our range of FAQs for more information, and we will continue to update this page with any further changes.

What are your current opening hours? 

Monday to Thursday: 9am - 6pm

Friday: 9am - 5pm

Saturday: 9am - 2pm

Sunday: CLOSED

The Local History Centre will be available by appointment between 10am – 1pm weekdays by contacting or calling 9273 6534.  

How do I return my library items?

You can now return items via the return slots inside the library, or to the after-hours return chute. The after-hours return chute is located on the Richmond Street side of the building. Returns items are quarantined for 72 hours before being returned to our shelves. 

How to use the After-hours Return Chute:

  1. Place book, DVD etc close to the opening, and the opening will be released.
  2. Place loaned item/s on the tray and close.
  3. The Library will clear the items from your card when they have been quarantined.

Will there be a fine if I return my books past their due date?

No. We are currently not fining members for returning items past their due date. 

Are there any changes to borrowing?

Yes. Members can currently borrow up to 12 items from the library at a time for a period of 4 weeks, an increase from a period of 3 weeks.

For those who are unable to come in to the library, as always you can access eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and video streaming from home using our Online Services.

Is the library offering a click and collect type service?

Yes. If you don’t want to come in to the library to choose your own books, the City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre is offering City of Residents the opportunity to click and collect a bag of 12 items from the library. To receive a bag, complete a Stay at Home Book Bag form.

I have an item on hold but can't make it to the library to collect it. What can I do?

Cancel: If you no longer want the item, you can cancel your hold by logging in to our Online Catalogue.  Login using your library card number and PIN then click the ‘Holds’ tab and tick the box next to the holds you want to cancel then click the ‘cancel hold(s)’ button at the top of the list.

Suspend: If you want to suspend your hold to a later date, you can also do this using our Online Catalogue. Login using your library card number and PIN then click the ‘Holds’ tab and tick the box next to the holds you want to cancel then click the ‘suspend hold(s)’ button at the top of the list. Enter the date you want to the suspension to start and the date you will be ready to collect it from.

Are the public computers and WiFi available?

Yes. We have 6 public computers available. Patrons are expected to be able to navigate the computer themselves as library staff are currently unable to assist with any problems. 

Can I use the printer / photocopier / scanner?

Yes. Our printer, photocopier and scanning services are available.

I am a socially isolated and vulnerable person, can books be delivered to me?

Yes. We are continuing to run our Books on Wheels service, now with contactless delivery where we deliver a bag of handpicked and cleaned library items to your doorstep every three weeks.
We are extending this service to vulnerable people including seniors over the age of 60 and people with disability who are City of Vincent residents.

The City of Vincent also offers a Meals on Wheels service to eligible residents through an arrangement with the City of Stirling Community Care ‘Community Food Services’ program. The cost of the service has dropped from $10 to $7 for a one course meal and from $11 to $8 for a two course meal for the duration of COVID-19, with the City of Vincent paying for $3.05 of each meal for eligible and registered residents.

Are programs and events still running?

Starting Monday 20 July 2020 we will be resuming our Children's Events:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Mondays : Baby Rhyme Time from 10am; Storytime from 10:45am ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Tuesdays : LEGO Club from 3:30pm to 5:30pm⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Thursdays : Baby Rhyme Time from 10am; Storytime from 10:45am

Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime attendance currently limited to City of Vincent residents and one session per week. Bookings are essential and open one week in advance: 9273 6090 or Please let us know if you wish to cancel.

Adult events remain on hold until further notice.

How can I protect myself and others when visiting the library?

Please stay home if you are unwell or have flu-like symptoms. We have Online Services that can be accessed from home.

Staff are only able to serve each customer for a maximum 15 minutes and we ask patrons to use the self loan kiosks where possible. 

Library staff are disinfecting surfaces regularly and will not handle patron belongings.

All staff and patrons will be reminded to practice social distancing by remaining 1.5 metres away from others.

I don't have a library membership yet. How do I sign up?

If you just want to access our Online Services (such as eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and video streaming), you can Join Online and use the membership number they give you as your library card number when accessing our digital collection. To finalise your membership when you want to borrow items from our physical library, bring in your ID and we will issue with a membership card.
