New library catalogue

Visitors to the City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre may notice a few improvements with a more streamlined library management system and catalogue installed this week.

“One of the reasons for the upgrade is the old Library Management System was installed over 20 years ago and was created before digital materials existed,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“To accommodate digital materials like images, ebooks, eaudiobooks and films, the library had seven different databases for customers to access depending on the material they wanted to borrow or view. The new management system brings the entire collection under one user friendly system.”

While a number of the benefits of the new system will be unnoticed by library users, some benefits they may notice include:

  • a more interactive public access catalogue
  • access to a mobile App
  • ability to receive notifications via email and SMS
  • ability to create and save personalised searches and lists
  • manage accounts, renew and reserve items online

The current library collection consists of 128,000 items including books, audio books, eBooks, films, magazines and images. The library shut down for three days earlier this week to convert the system over.

“Thank you to our regular library visitors for your patience while we upgraded our library system. It was a massive undertaking to move our collection over into the new system and I’d like to congratulate our wonderful library team for a job well done,” she said.

“If you are a library regular or a library newbie, I encourage you to drop in or visit us online to try out our new system.”
