Vincent Local History Awards turns 21

Published on Tuesday, 1 June 2021 at 2:38:14 PM

The City of Vincent’s annual Local History Awards celebrates its 21st birthday this year.

Run since 2000, the Awards have helped build a treasure trove of local photos, memoirs and stories about life in Vincent’s suburbs.

“We invite the community to mark the ‘coming of age’ of the City’s Local History Collection by their sharing their favourite photos and stories with us,’’ Mayor Emma Cole said.

“Our recent shared experience of COVID-19 has seen many local residents discover or renew their interest in the history of their streets and neighbourhoods.

“We invite current or former residents to tell us about the local people, places or events that make Vincent such a special place for them.

“We’d especially love to hear from people with personal stories or photos of Beatty Park, which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year.”

Next year also marks the 125th anniversary of the Hyde Park being gazetted as a public park.

The City invites people with stories or photos about our much loved park to participate in the Local History Awards.

The Awards are open to everyone including non-residents, provided the subject matter is about life in the Vincent area. Subjects may include:

  • People or groups in Vincent (individuals, families, local artists, businesses, community groups or sporting clubs, schools and religious or charitable groups);
  • Places in Vincent (histories of houses and buildings, streets, lanes, parks, trees or landmarks);
  • Events (historic or contemporary) in the Vincent area.
