Purposeful Play with Nicole Pates and Maggie Dent

Wednesday 16th September 2026

Need some warm, no-pressure advice on how to play in ways that are fun, engaging, and boost your baby’s development? Want practical tips on how to manage modern technology with your children?

Boundless Books in partnership with City of Vincent Library brings you a conversation between two parenting gurus: paediatric physiotherapist Nicole Pates and author, educator and podcaster Maggie Dent.

Together they'll introduce Nicole's new book, Purposeful Play: From Birth to Walking, which features simple, fun, research-backed ways to play with newborns, rollers, crawlers, and toddlers. With over 100 stage-based ideas, most which need nothing more than household items and some floor space, Nicole’s book will empower parents and carers to engage and connect with babies in fun, rich and meaningful play.

They'll also be discussing Maggie's latest book, Digital Freedom: a guide to less screen time for safer, happier and healthier families. Parents and educators face a genuine contradiction when it comes to screen time. It's both an essential part of modern life and a leading cause of harm and mental illness. How do we protect our young people while also giving them the tools to succeed. Addressing when and how to give kids a smart phone, how algorithms and digital footprints work, privacy and safety on social media, and much more.

Tickets to this event are free but registrations are essential.
