The Vincent Library and Local History Centre team has been busy updating the library service and space to be the library of the future. What we mean by that is refreshing the collections, technology, and facilities to meet the community's needs.

Our core belief is that we are the lounge room of the community, and we made it our main priority to build up and improve the service to reflect that.

Action Plan

We’ve been carefully reviewing your feedback, survey responses, requests, Google reviews, and key statistical data, along with exploring best practices from other libraries.

This valuable input has helped us identify several opportunities to enhance our services and better align with our goals. The key focus areas include:

  • Collections: Our shelves held a wide range of materials, though many were outdated, in poor condition, or not resonating with community interests. At the same time, there was strong demand for newer and more popular titles, with long wait times for some items. We’re working to refresh and rebalance the collection to better reflect current needs and preferences.
  • Browsing: The previous shelving layout made browsing more challenging than intended. We’re rethinking our layout to create a more welcoming, intuitive and enjoyable browsing experience.
  • Engagement:
    • Our communication channels, signage, and community outreach efforts have room to be timelier and more effective in connecting with patrons.
    • We’re aiming to offer a broader, more inclusive range of programs and events that cater to different age groups and interests.
  • Facilities: Some of our décor and furnishings are due for an update to better reflect the comfort, accessibility, and style that our diverse visitors expect. We’re working toward a more inviting and functional environment for all.
  • Systems:
    • There is a growing need for modern equipment and technology, including updated public PCs, reliable printing services, gaming options, and strong WiFi access.
    • We also plan to enhance the usability and accessibility of our website and catalogue to better support your online experience.
  • Accessibility: We are committed to expanding accessibility practices across all areas of our service delivery to ensure everyone can enjoy and benefit from what we offer.

Current Projects

We are currently focusing on improving how you use the catalogue, browsing and finding items to borrow, improving the selection and quality of available library items.

Refreshing the collection and layout to be more intuitive, engaging and easy to find things of interest.

Genre Project

Following community feedback and the successful trial in the Young Adult and Large Print sections earlier this year, the Library is refreshing its collection to better serve the community and improve the browsing experience.

Books and other materials are now being arranged by popular genres such as mystery, science fiction, fantasy, romance, crime, and more. This intuitive organisation will make it easier for visitors to discover stories they love, explore new authors and navigate the Library more naturally.
