Aboriginal Basket Weaving

Past Event

Help us celebrate NAIDOC week by joining Emma-Jane to learn the ancient skill of basket weaving.

Emma-Jane Hunt is a Yindjibarndi and Djaru woman with both traditional and ancestral links to both the Pilbara and Kimberly regions of Western Australia. She was taught to weave over ten years ago when living in the East Pilbara by Martu Weavers from the Western Desert.

Emma-Jane is grateful for being taught these weaving techniques and is passionate about keeping this particular cultural practice alive by teaching a traditional method of basket weaving.

This workshop will enable participants to create a small woven basket to take home. Weaving kits are included along with full instructions.

Additional materials will be available to purchase for those wishing to continue the craft at home.
