Protecting WA's Bees

Thursday 8th January 2026

The Varroa destructor is the world’s most devastating parasitic pest to honeybees has been declared an endemic pest in Australia.

Varroa was detected in NSW in 2022 and is already considered not feasible to eradicate. Here in WA, we have maintained relative freedom from them, but efforts are now being made to keep it out and prepare our local beekeepers.

No matter how many hives that someone has, it is vital that beekeepers work together to fight the mite. Join us at Vincent Library to hear from experts how to enhance hive surveillance, detect pests and diseases early, implement effective management strategies, and ultimately improve your hive's health.
