Tech Made Simple: Avoiding Scams

Tuesday 25th August 2026

Everybody has the right to be able to access, afford, connect, participate and benefit from the digital world. While Australia’s skills continue to improve, the rising cost of connectivity, the uncertainty of new technologies, and a global increase in digital scams, make it more important than ever to grow our knowledge.

Tech Made Simple is a social group designed to help you feel more confident and in-control when using technology.

Each session we cover a new topic delivered in an easy-to-follow format by a friendly guest presenter. We are then joined by volunteers from the National Institute of Technology for hands-on practice and to answer any questions you have in a safe and supportive environment.

In this session, we will discuss how to identify and avoid scams.

The rate of online scams is increasing, and scammers are becoming more sophisticated in their approach to potential victims. This class will outline some of the most common online scams and how you can identify them. Learn what you can do to protect yourself from being scammed, and what to do in the unfortunate case that you’re the victim of a scam.
