Library Refurbishment
The Vincent Library and Local History Centre will be undertaking a refurbishment to improve the layout, comfort, and usability of the library space. This work supports our ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming and accessible space to serve as the lounge room of the community.
To safely complete this work, the library building will be closed from Wednesday, 27 May, and we reopen on Monday, 6 July. During the closure, new shelving will be installed and the layout updated to make the library easier to browse, more comfortable to use, and better suited to community needs.
To reduce disruption, loan limits will be increased and due dates extended so items borrowed before June are not due back during the closure period. The after-hours returns chute will remain available, and Books on Wheels deliveries will continue.
Members will also continue to have access to the library’s digital collection, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and online resources. The online catalogue and library app will remain available for browsing and placing holds.
The closure period will also be used to refresh library programs and services based on community feedback. This includes exploring flexible and creative ways to deliver programs, such as story times held out in the community, and trialing new formats and locations for library activities. Further information about updated programs will be shared closer to reopening.
We appreciate the community’s patience while this work is completed and look forward to welcoming everyone back in July to a refreshed, more welcoming library space.

What dates is the library closed for?

Loans and Memberships
What happens if my borrowed items are due while the library is closed?
All due dates on borrowed items have been temporarily suspended while the library is closed.
When the library reopens, all borrowed items will receive new due dates.
How do I renew my borrowed items?
You do not need to renew your borrowed items while the library is closed.
Can I still return my items when I am finished with them?
Yes! The after-hours chute (located on the Richmond Street side of the library) is available for any items you wish to return.
Can I borrow new items?
The library's physical collection cannot be accessed during the closure.
The library has a diverse digital library collection where you can borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and stream movies or TV shows.

You can reserve new items to borrow from Monday, 6th July.
Can I still become a library member?
Yes! You can still become a member and have full access to the digital library collection. When we reopen on Monday, 6th July, you can come to the front desk and transfer to a full membership, receive your membership card, and start borrowing physical items as well.
Programs and Services
What will happen to the social clubs such as Book Club, Mah Jong, Chess, C.A.K.E etc?
Social clubs will be held next door in the Community Centre, Kambarang Room.

What is happening with Table Tennis?
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9am - 10am, library staff will be present in the Community Centre to take payments for Table Tennis.
Can I see the Justice of the Peace?
The Justice of the Peace service is temporarily suspended while the library is closed.
The Justice of the Peace service will resume on Friday, 10 July.

What works are taking place?
The library is replacing all of the shelving units which also contain acoustic panels to assist with noise control in the library.
The library is also updating:
- The layout to be more intuitive, accessible, and comfortable.
- Installing new lighting with more accessible features and options.
- Updating some furniture and fittings to be more modern, accessible, and comfortable.
Why is the library closing for so long?
To provide sufficient time to safely pack up over 55,000 items from the shelves, dismantle the old shelving, install new lighting, furniture, fittings, and shelving, and restock the shelves.
