Neighbour Day

Sunday 30th March 2025

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

The theme for 2025 Neighbour Day is ‘Create Share Grow Belonging’a call to action to everyone (individuals, community groups, business and governments) to take every day actions that create social connection and foster respectful relationships.

Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

The principal aim of Neighbour Day is to build better relationships with the people who live around us, especially the elderly and vulnerable. Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can transform communities.

Social connection also makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression. Neighbour Day brings together like-minded people, resources, and organizations to grow stronger, well connected communities. And make us all feel better about the world!

Responsibility for Neighbour Day belongs to every person, in every community.

Ways to connect with your neighbours

Offer to exchange contact details in case of an emergency.

If you feel comfortable, let you neighbours know they can call you if they need help.

Get to know the interests of your neighbours

What do they enjoy doing or what would they like to do?

Link people you know that may appreciate each other's company in your street, or in your neighbourhood.

Connecting to one another lessens social isolation and creates a greater sense of community.

Ask your neighbours how long they have lived in the area.

Most would love to tell you the history of the suburb or street!

Try carpooling or walking together if your children go to the same school.

Expanding your friend group is a bonus for grandparents, parents and children alike.
