Boxing was another popular form of entertainment for Aboriginal people in East Perth.  Informal boxing matches sometimes took place down by the river or in Weld Square (Beaufort Park) before or after the Coolbaroo dances.

At the East Perth branch of the Police and Citizens’Boys/Youth Club which was located on the former Walton Street, young Aboriginal men like Ron Gidgup learned to box.
