Britannia gets lit

The City of Vincent is upgrading the lighting at the northern end of Britannia Reserve.

The new LED lights will illuminate three fields and allow the local sporting teams to play and train at night.

They're also better for the environment.

Three sporting fields will receive the lighting upgrades.

(This area includes three cricket pitches during the summer sport season and/or six soccer fields during the winter sport season.)

One of the fields will be suitable for night games while the other two fields will be suitable for training.

The lighting will be partially funded through a $491,000 grant from the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

As part of this grant funding the lights will be installed before the end of 2021.

This is a significant investment in our local community sporting infrastructure.

The existing lights are old technology that no longer meet current standards.

The new generation LED lights direct the light down and confine it to the playing fields.

The lighting levels will be in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards for lux levels.(As indicated on the map below.)

The preliminary design has been done by a specialist lighting consultant.

It has eight poles with an average height of 35m.

These new poles will be taller than the existing lights allowing the lighting to be directed downward to the playing surface, illuminating a more confined area in a direct beam, as is best practice for sports field lighting.
